The Gathering Dust

Music by: Blues Funeral
Lyrics by: Maurice Eggenschwiler

Deep within these halls so white
Two figures dance by candlelight
Sun and Moon, their hands entwined
Each step, a footprint in my mind,

Each mask conceals a face I know
A stale, blank gaze with eyes aglow
The music swells, then fades away
Beneath the apex of decay

“Consider this”, they stared and said,
Liberty is for the dead

Lost in the gathering dust
Frames surrounded by rust
Gone were the days of trust
Basking in the unjust
Portraits, depicting the atrophy
Of an everlasting fantasy

Standing on the parlor floor
A statue of forgotten lore
Defiantly it beckons them
Behold the princely diadem

The words they speak are dark and bright
Bereaved of their own sense of sight
Lost within this maze of tempest
Guided by their own unrest

“Observe” they said as one
Will you remember…when we’re gone

Lost in the gathering dust
Frames surrounded by rust
Gone were the days of trust
Basking in the unjust
Portraits, depicting the atrophy
Of an everlasting fantasy

about

Blues Funeral Houston, Texas

Following a temporary hiatus for Sanctus Bellum in November of 2014, Sanctus Bellum members, Jan Kimmel, Cory Cousins, and Maurice
Eggenschwiler immediately formed Blues Funeral
recruiting Gabe Katz on bass, and spent the next several
months writing.
This has culminated into a diverse array of proto-metal
and progressive rock very much steeped in a vision of the music from the 60’s and 70’s.
